Why it's time to rethink wearing pink

I’m confused, really I am. Is the current abundance of blush pink a revival or  a backlash? It can’t be a continuation, surely? Blush pink went ubiquitous two  and a half years ago during the Great Pink  Coat furore, after which it was meant to disappear.
Remember the disgruntled outpouring about the lack of availability of that M&S blush-pink coat? ‘We’re  doing our best to keep up,’ said the M&S management, or words to that effect. ‘But we don’t want it everywhere.’ ‘Please yourselves,’ said the early adopters. ‘We’ve moved on anyway.’ Only, as it now turns out, they hadn’t. Not really.
Since the Winter of Blush Pink, there has been a Summer of Green, a Winter of Burgundy,  a Summer of Yellow. (Yellow? Please.) But in the same way that no one can ever admit to liking the British Eurovision entry, no one stylish is meant to  wear an Officially Fashionable Colour. This isn’t always convenient. I happen to like this summer’s OFC – pale blue. It suits me. ‘You can’t wear it,’ declared a colleague recently. ‘It will be everywhere.’ Morosely I concluded she was right, in as far as everyone appears to be gearing up to spend the next eight months in denim.  But she’s also a little bit wrong, because blush pink has also crept back up the hit  parade. Pale pink’s in the charts too, but can be harder to handle, as it’s prone to looking saccharine or cold.
Blush pink on the other hand, is a little bit dirty and dusty, with a whiff of vintage silk underwear about it, which makes it warm and erotic. Hats off, given how hard it is for anything to look erotic these days.  It works beautifully with silver (very Chanel, above), with black (Chloé) with orange and red (Roksanda) and with navy and khaki (my very own suggestions, you’re welcome). And it suits all complexions. So there you go, I think we’ve solved the mystery of what’s going on here: blush pink has become a classic..
